Makeup has become so much a part of our lives that we cannot imagine a day without basic makeup. What Should be Your Everyday Makeup Routine

Cleansing
A fresh face is the basic requirement for any kind of makeup. So begin your day by using a good quality cleanser to remove makeup, dirt and bacteria from your face. Take a small quantity of cleanser on a cotton ball and move it in circular motions on your face. Rinse it off with cold water afterwards (cold water helps to close pores, so that your makeup doesn't enter your skin). Pat dry your face with a clean towel.

Moisturizing
A good quality moisturizer is a must to keep your skin soft and hydrated throughout the day. Moisturizer also creates a barrier between your skin and makeup, thereby protecting it from harsh makeup ingredients. A moisturizer with an SPF over 15 can be your best bet during summer. If you have a fairly even skin or if you do not intend to use foundation, use a tinting moisturizer that can cover up light blemishes. An oil based moisturizer is best for people with dry skin and during months of winter. Whereas, people with oily, acne prone skin should go for water based moisturizers.

Concealing
You may skip this step if you have even, flawless skin. However, most women need cover up of some kind to get rid of blemishes on the face. If you have only slight unevenness in your skin tone, take a part of concealer and a part of moisturizer and apply it evenly all over your face. Larger blemishes can be covered with a base foundation. Concealer should be used to cover dark circles under eyes and puffy eye bags. A cream based concealer is best as it does not accumulate in the creases of the eyes. You may highlight your cheekbones with a rosy or peach cream blush.

Eye Defining
Eyes are your best features, hence do not forget to accentuate your eyes with an eye definition pencil. A black mascara gives your eyes the requisite amount of definition. Usually, you do not need an eyeshadow for everyday eye makeup, as everyday makeup looks subdued than party makeup. Yet, if you insist, you may go for neutral shades of eyeshadow such as pink, beige, coral etc. Avoid use of funky colors like fuchsia, lime green, purple for eyeliner and eyeshadow.
Lip Color
Simply applying a lipstick gives you the desired groomed look. It is of utmost importance to make your lips look healthy and plump. You may apply a lip balm for a more casual look or you may go for high shine lip gloss for a more glamorous look. It is best to avoid lipstick whenever you can as the lipstick ingredients may cause damage to your lips in the long run. A lip balm or lip gloss are perfect for everyday makeup.

The first step before applying makeup is to cleanse, tone, and moisturize the skin thoroughly.
Now apply a tinted moisturizer to give your face a clear, even skin tone, and to avoid the powdery look.
Conceal any under eye dark circles with a concealer, that blends well with your skin tone. You can apply it with your fingertips or with a concealer brush.
Apply a very thin layer of a semitransparent powder to set the makeup base in place. For those with oily skin, this step will also help avoid the shine caused by oily skin.
For makeup to look cute, apply a mild, subtle shade of eyeshadow on the eyes, from the upper lash line to the eyebrows. An eyeliner will make your eyes stand out. No eye makeup is complete without the use of a mascara to volumize the eyelashes.
Apply a very mild pink blush to the cheek bones and blend it well around the area.
For the lips, apply a light, and tinted lip gloss to give it that additional pout. You can go with a lip gloss that has a mild shimmer too.

Dramatic Makeup Ideas

Sometimes you may want to jazz up your look a bit, by going dramatic with your makeup. See how you can transform yourself into a diva of the night, by following these tips.

Begin by cleansing and moisturizing your face with a light moisturizer. For oily skin, use a toner before applying your moisturizer. This will prevent the shine caused by excessively oily skin.
Apply an even layer of foundation on your skin, one that matches your skin tone. An excess will give the skin an unnatural tone, so be careful. Proceed to use highlighting powder, and under eye concealer.
For dramatic makeup, you have to play up the eyes. Pick out three colors of eyeshadow, as per your choice. However, these shades should proceed from light to dark, and should therefore, belong to the same family of colors. You could start with a light cream, moving to a slightly darker shade, followed by the darkest shade.
Use the lightest color of shadow on your eyelids, starting from the lash line to the eyebrows. Apply it well and let it blend evenly with your skin. To further dramatize the jazz, apply just one line of the eyeshadow below the lower lash line, from the inner to the outer corner of the eye.
The next step is to apply the next, darker shade of eyeshadow. You will apply this from the lash line only up to the eye crease. Now apply the darkest shade using an angled eye shadow brush. This is to be applied above the crease, only the amount of the width of the angled eye shadow brush. Begin with a little eye shadow, and proceed to apply more depending on how dark you want the shade to be. Ensure that you blend all the shades well. Let it proceed from light to dark, naturally.
Use a dark eyeliner pencil, and make the line starting just below the outer corner of the eye. Extend it slightly to create the cat's eye look, and bring it back right up to the inner corner of the eye, above the upper lash line. Now apply a fine line just below but very close to the lower lash line. The upper eyeliner can be slightly thicker.
For the eyelashes, use a good, black mascara to add volume to your lashes. After the mascara dries, dramatize the look further by using an eyelash curler to curl your eyelashes. Also take a look at dramatic eye makeup ideas.
Use a blush on your cheeks that matches your skin tone. If your skin tone is lighter, use a rosy blush, and if it is darker, use a blush of nude shades. Apply it on your cheek bones, and blend it around the area.

Instead of being focused on creating the perfect shades, the base ingredients are what make up the underlying core of the cosmetic application. These ingredients determine the overall texture of the makeup, whether the cosmetic items are thick or thin, and can even affect how easy or difficult application of the product is. The three most common base ingredients found in cosmetics are water, minerals, and oils.

Obviously, each of these three ingredients has their own qualities as well as their own advantages and disadvantages. Because of how important it is to have the ability to match cosmetics with your skin type and personal preferences, taking the time to compare and understand these three base ingredients could be the key to finding the exact type of cosmetics that will meet your needs and best complement your skin tone. Here are the most important details about each type of cosmetics base so that you can find the type that is best for you.

Water-Based Cosmetics

Many water-based cosmetics choose water as their base ingredient because it can produce a lighter and thinner product than either mineral-based or oil-based cosmetics. This is an especially popular option with many mascaras and liquid eyeliners, since they rely on their thinner nature to be able to be applied effectively. In addition to being able to produce a product that flows well and goes on lightly, many water-based cosmetics cost less to produce as opposed to other bases. This can lead to a product that not only is easy to apply but that also has a slightly lower cost on average than other options.

Many water-based liquid cosmetics will have a natural glossiness to them, a characteristic which can be accentuated in products such as lip gloss or which can be toned down by the addition of powdered ingredients in concealers. Not as common as water- or oil-based cosmetics but rapidly growing in popularity, mineral-based cosmetic products use natural minerals as their base component and pigment. Many mineral-based cosmetics use only natural ingredients, making sure that all of the pigments that appear in the products are shades that can be found in nature and also reducing the likelihood of allergic reactions that are often triggered by chemically-based ingredients. Because of the purity of the ingredients (and in some cases, the difficulty of getting the ingredients in the first place), many mineral-based cosmetics will have at least a slightly higher price than water-based and oil-based cosmetics.
