Getting brown lip gloss out of light colored clothing.?

I recently asked about this and got a lot of good answers but I left out some information that was important. I found the lipgloss in a load of light clothing after I had already dried the load. Does that mean it is set? I can't use spray or rub on pretreats because there are so many stains on a whole load of laundry, I would be there all day spraying and rubbing. Is there something that I can soak the load in that would work as well as a spray or rub on pretreat? I have been soaking them in Oxyclean before washing and the stains have turned into a light pink so I know that it is getting better, but I have washed the same load once everyday for about a week now. Will this mess up the clothing? Will the spots eventually just go away if I keep soaking and washing the load or am I fighting a losing battle? This load has brand new clothes and pillow cases in it, so whatever help I can get will be greatly apprectiated.

If you dont want to sit there all day spraying your clothes. Put all of them in the bath tub put some hot water in and then pour spray-in-wash in let them soak for the day and then wash.

How did settlers in the Old West really know what time it was? Did they keep close track of the hours and minutes? And whose "time" was considered the "right" time in the many small towns and farms spread across the American West?

Industrial nations rely on keeping track of time and doing it accurately. Today's atomic clocks that track time in millionths of seconds are testimony to that. Even today's cheap wristwatches available at local "Big Box" stores are accurate to within a few seconds a year. But have you ever wondered how someone living in Wyoming, Nebraska, California, or Colorado would have known what time it was in 1855?

Certainly clocks and watches were readily available to most Westerners. Clocks which would be recognizable to modern people had been around for several centuries before 1855. People living then anywhere in the U.S. would have had timepieces, probably windup pocket watches to take time with them and longcase pendulum clocks in their homes.

So the question was -- who kept the "master timepiece," who knew what the local time was. And, very importantly, what "time zone" was a given town or farm located in during the 1850s in the West? How did people keep such matters straight.

If you guessed that timekeeping and such things as time zones were in great disarray early in the period we think of as the "Old West," you guessed correctly. Time keeping and such things as time zones were pretty casual. In a fascinating book about everyday life in the Old West written by a British author in the 1950s, "The Look of the Old West," time zones really never came into existence in the East or the West until the railroads grew in influence, spread across the nation and worked to standardize time. In fact, according to that British writer William Foster-Harris, the nation ran on agreed upon local time until railroad influence finally standardized time zones in 1883. The federal government approved their time zone set up soon after.

But back in our 1855 scenario, local time was generally based on marking "high noon," the time when the sun was directly overhead and cast either no shadow or the shortest observed shadow of the day. Some communities marked high noon by dropping a large ball from a clock tower, or firing a canon, or sometimes having a tower clock centrally located chime the occasion with a loud bell. Individuals with clocks in their homes or pocket watches set their time accordingly. And, in many towns throughout the West there was a local jeweler who would be happy to set your watch for you.

Time zones were so unorganized in the 1850s, however, that a trip out of town meant changing your time about a minute for each nine or 10 miles east or west.

For better or worse, the railroads settled and shaped the West in multitudes of ways -- even down to creating time zones, thus making sure everyone knew what time it was.

So, I just received an acrylic-paints art set....?

She suggested I start with acrylics before moving onto oil painting and I was just wondering... Where the HECK do I start? =P How do I even begin to experiment? What's the best way, on average, to go about learning how to use paints? Especially when I've only got four canvasses to paint on?

Why don't you start by setting up a few fruits and veggies you can buy at the store, then set up your stuff on a nice table cloth with a not to "busy" design on it, try to have it set up so you enjoy looking at it. Take one color and one small brush, one medium sized brush and one large brush and see if you can draw it, then paint it in with simply one color. don't forget to blend the paint down with water...then have fun and see how it works out..

I think I'm a rescue freak. I can't bear to see an animal in need. I don't care what animal it is, I'll help them all. However, cats seem to have their own way of finding me. Once two stray cats turned up on my doorstep, the day after I had moved in.

I think they have good bush telegraph.

Or maybe I was a cat in a past life...

Catching abandoned animals can be tricky, though.

Some years ago, I adopted a very frightened young cat. Before she had properly settled in, she managed to escape from the house and luckily, ran up a nearby tree.

I HAD to retrieve her as otherwise she would run feral, not knowing where home was.

I knew I was in for a hard time. Happily the tree wasn't very high and a short step ladder was sufficient to get myself to her level. Then the fun started. She kept backing herself further and further down a narrow branch, until she could go no further. By now, she was really frightened.

I made a grab for her.

She fought and bit and scratched, but I managed to hang on. Somehow we made it back to the house and she bolted to hide under a bed. Well, she was safe, if traumatised. I'll deal with her later. How about me?

My arms and hands were covered in deep scratches and bite marks which were beginning to become sore and swell up.

I found my bottle of homoeopathic Ledum and started dosing myself. Within a couple of doses a few minutes apart, I could feel the pain ebbing away.

A few more doses and there was really only the marks left, the swelling having gone down. A few days later and they were gone too.

How I wished I had known of this remedy some years earlier when I was in a similar situation. Then, my hands and arms were swollen and very sore for over two weeks.

The most obvious problem in such a situation, apart from the pain and swelling, is the risk of infection. Because the remedy had worked quickly on the immediate symptoms (the pain and swelling), I knew it would prevent any infection, and it did.

Ledum is a great acute remedy for any puncture wound. This can be from a cat bite (or any other animal), a splinter, a shard of glass, a vaccination, a rusty nail, a poisonous spider or snake bite. They're all puncture wounds. I routinely give parents and pet owners Ledum to take before and after they have their child or pet vaccinated. This helps with any swelling and limits the harm.

If Ledum is given quickly after a bite, it will prevent an abscess. Abscesses are common in cats who fight other cats, or in cats who hunt.

A quirky keynote of Ledum is that they are cold, but feel better for cold applications. Heat aggravates the situation. So if the area of the bite feels relief from cold applications (we're not talking about the numbing effect of ice here), Ledum is the first remedy to use.

If the remedy doesn't help the acute symptoms (pain and swelling), then infection could set in. If relief is obtained from the remedy, it will also stop infection, even tetanus. So it's important to keep an eye on this.

Prehistoric Venus, or Ancient Goddess, is a reference to a class of art object made by modern humans before writing existed, therefore 'pre-history' by definition. Writing started in several places at approximately the same time, around 3500-3000BC. Sumer and China were close together with Sumer currently viewed as being the first. All other places were later than that with Mesoamerica being less than 1000 BC. Therefore, the term prehistoric has a different meaning depending on location.

To put things into perspective current research has the dispersal of Homo Sapien into Europe set for 45,000 to 30,000 years ago. That dispersion occurred before the last glacial period that started circa 30,000 years ago and ended circa 10,000 years ago. Glacial maximums have been associated with the extinction of species and after the last maximum (commonly called 'the last ice age') the only human-like life form left was Homo Sapien. Populations would rise in refuge areas (Refugiums) during the glacial periods and dispersion would occur in the interglacial periods. Art followed Homo Sapien, whether that is the earliest known cave wall painting dated to circa 30,000BC or the Ancient Goddess known as Prehistoric Venus. The oldest Prehistoric Venus found to date is the Venus of Hohle Fels, found recently in Germany, which has been dated to 40,000 to 35,000BC. That pre-dates the last glacial expansion and any known cave paintings. That is old! Its age does coincide with Homo Sapien expansion in Europe in an interglacial period.

Several other Prehistoric Venuses have been found and dated to times when the last glacial period was at its maximum; a time when Britain was largely under ice and the Iberian Peninsula was a refuge. Clearly some hardy folks remained in the frozen tundra that was Europe, at least those parts not beneath the crushing weight of glaciers. The following are very old artifacts:

Prehistoric Venuses have common elements of distorted features and aggressive sexuality. Most prehistoric art found to date depicts women, which causes much speculation about the concept of 'Mother Earth' worship. The most intriguing aspect of Prehistoric Venus, apart from age, is commonality in form yet they come from diverse cultures and locations. We may never know the reason or how dispersed communities came to have common themes in art. Yet one truth remains; at this time the Prehistoric Venus of Hohle Fels is the oldest known art in the world.

You want to cover your acne, yet piling on the make up just seems to make it worse? Sometimes the trick is in the "less is more" approach. When looking for cosmetics, as an acne sufferer the words non-comedogenic and oil-free are your friends. Comedones are blackheads, caused by blockages in the pores. A non-comedegenic product is less likely to cause congestion in the skin and exacerbate your acne condition.

Start with clean skin and apply a light moisturiser such as an oil-free lotion. Do not make the common mistake of thinking that oil and moisture are the same thing.. if you deny the skin moisture it will compensate by producing more oil. The next step is your foundation. Make sure that you apply a light layer only and blend well- including down onto the neck. Foundation will help to even out the skintone and will provide a less reflective surface to the skin, making imperfections less obvious.

The next step is your concealer. Many people make the mistake of applying the concealer before the foundation. This is less effective as it tends to rub off when the foundation is being blended. Use the concealer to cover any particularly inflamed areas that are still red. Daub over the area and pat lightly to blend (do not rub). Remember to cover lightly any shadows under the eyes. Lastly a light sweep of powder over your face will give you a matt finish and set the foundation and concealer in place (again- less is more!!)

Steps:

1. Cleanse skin and pat dry. Apply moisturizer

2. Apply foundation and blend well

3. Use concealer over inflamed areas- dab on and pat to blend

4. A light powder to set foundation and give a matt finish

Applying eye makeup can be the most difficult part of putting on makeup. However, it is by far the most important part to. When people speak to you, they are looking at your eyes. What are your eyes telling the world about you? Here, I will break down this beauty procedure for you, so you can really put your best 'face' forward.

Eye liner is a bad word to some women, but it doesn't have to be. You just start at the inner eye lid and smooth your way to the outer edge. Try to get as close to the lash line as possible.

Once you have a nice line, you can play with the outer edge portion separately. You can create a more dramatic look by sweeping the liner up and out about two centimeters on each side.

Use a large shadow brush to sweep your color across the lower lid. Don't put anything on the upper lid, leave it looking natural. Use your brush to also dab shadow on the inner portion of your lids along the edges of the nose's bridge. And another dab on the outer corner of the eye lid, across the lower portion of the brow bone. This will allow the light to bounce off of those areas, creating a more youthful appearance.

Mascara is a must even if you don't do any of the above. It illuminates the eyes making the face's features more prominent. The trick is to start at the lower lash line and move the brush back and forth before bringing it up through the lashes.

Additional eye makeup tips and tricks:

* Cosmetic stores now sell a liquid liner that is like a magic marker with a pointed felt tip. It is very easy to use.

* If you mess up on your eye liner, use your pointer finger to smudge downward on the area that is uneven.

* A loose shadow powder will stay on better and will not set in the creases like a pressed powder will.

* To many eye shadow colors for your day look can be a pain, and appear unnatural. White shadow looks good on all women and matches everything. If you are concerned with wrinkles, go with a matte white shade. If you want to stand out more, go with a shimmer-white shade.

* We all have used our mascara as a mini pump before in an effort to get more liquid on the brush. This method will cause more clumping and make your mascara not last as long. Just twist the brush a few times, before pulling it out and repeat before going to the next eye.

Have you ever watched JustJess , Hosted by Jess Altieri of WineHarvest? It's a good program that talks about the impact of the wine industry in popular commerce and media. Most recently an episode on WineChannelTV referred to wine as the next bet in alcoholic beverages to mainstream with popular sporting events such as the NFL and NBA playoffs. Imagine having an "official wine" sponsor for your favorite NFL Team! It sounds a little bit far fetched but more and more consumers are switching to a good bottle of wine when enjoying an exhilarating game between popular NFL rivalries, especially during Super Bowl season.

I suppose this stems from the fact that Wine and Sports have many relatable characteristics. If you think about the NFL for example, each team has their own set of unique characteristics that they bring to each playoff, with their own line up strategy and individual stats that contribute to the loss or win of a game. Wine is the same, there is no same flavor or universal choice as each blend is made to emulate flavor, palette preference and body.

Let's put it to the test. If you had to think about what kind of wine you would associate with your favorite NFL team, what do you think you would pick? My favorite is the Cleveland Browns and if I had to conceptualize an "official team wine" I'd have to say that my first pick is the Roubie Syrah. This unique blend is very similar to a good Croze wine, with a supple and spicy dark flavor that explodes in your mouth, a great all rounder. The Brows with their overall athleticism and full on approach would fit the Roubie Syrah profile perfectly.

Does this eyeshadow set on Ebay look real, or fake?

It is MAC cosmetics, which is REALLY expensive. And it comes with 18 colors, and usually one color is almost 20 dollars. I have heard of lots of scandals,where they say it's an expensive brand like MAC, and when you get it it's some cheap makeup. OR you dont get the stuff at all...

I hate to generalise but almost anything that comes from Asia, is fake.

You should join Specktra.com. There is a big post on that forum which specifically names dodgy ebay MAC sellers and another post which names authentic and trusted ebay MAC sellers.

Also, beware of ebay in general. There are lots of sellers selling fakes on there who will tell you their products are authentic. When you get into MAC a little more you will easily be able to spot out fakes, but if you're still new, you won't know the difference, so becareful.

If you're ever doubtful, always ask, however judging by the answers you've received so far, don't ask here. The Specktra makeup forums is full of awesome MAC obsessed girls who know the difference between fake and real from just one glance.

And just so you know, if you do buy fake MAC on ebay, ebay cannot give you your money back. Most of the time any refund you receive has to be issued by the seller. They will most likely not give you a refund. If you pay via Paypal and then file a claim with them, it may be possible to receive a refund, however this process is quiet slow and doesn;t guarantee anything.

Prevention is better than cure.
